What is scaling?
Scaling is a deep professional cleaning beneath the gumline as part of any dental treatment, especially gum disease.
Why scaling is needed?
Dental problems are caused by bacteria called plaque. Plaque sticking on the walls of the mouth, gums and teeth can cause inflammation specifically to the gums. This leads to form pockets or spaces between gum and teeth. Plaque then settles to the pockets which cannot be removed with ordinary brushing. If not the settled plaque is removed by scaling, gum disease could cause tooth and bone loss.
If the pockets are too deep, scaling followed by root planning may be needed. Studies revealed that scaling and root planning helps to prevent chronic periodontitis(Gum Disease).
After scaling tips:
You might have felt uncomfortable during scaling if you have sensitive teeth. After scaling you may have pain for a day or more and teeth sensitivity for few days. Gums appear swollen and reddish, tender and may bleed. Your dentist will prescribe medication to gradually subside all these conditions.
You will be asked to visit your dentist one or two times to check the progression of curing.

The patient needs to wear it for 22-24 hours every day. Every three weeks clear aligners are changed till the malocclusion of the teeth are addressed promptly.
